Biserno (Tenuta di Biserno)
Established in 2001-2002 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori after discovering the property in 1994 while seeking land to expand Ornellaia. After selling Ornellaia in 2002, Lodovico partnered with his brother Marchese Piero Antinori and landowner Umberto Mannoni to develop this unique hillside property in Alta Maremma. Working with consultant Michel Rolland, the estate produces distinctive Bordeaux-variety wines from the famous “Bolgheri Conglomerate” soils.
Estates: Total 95 hectares divided between Tenuta di Biserno (49 ha) and Tenuta Campo di Sasso (46 ha) in the hills of Bibbona. Special 6-hectare Vigna Lodovico parcel produces flagship Lodovico wine in exceptional years. Hillier, stonier terrain than neighboring Bolgheri with mineral-rich alluvium soils. Varieties include Cabernet Franc (dominant), Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. Modern winery designed by architect Marcello Cutino.
Location: Hills of Bibbona, Alta Maremma, coastal western Tuscany (borders Bolgheri to the south)
