Firriato
Founded in the early 1980s by Salvatore Di Gaetano, a businessman with passion for his homeland, Firriato has become one of Sicily’s largest production companies and helped establish the island as a quality wine region internationally. Today, his daughter Irene and her husband Federico Lombardo di Monte Iato continue the family legacy. All vineyards are certified organic. The name “Firriato” comes from rural Sicilian culture meaning “enclosed,” referring to the protected area near the main house where valuable crops like vineyards were planted (similar to French “Clos”).
Estates: 490 hectares of certified organic vineyards across 7 estates spanning western Sicily (Trapani) to Mount Etna to the Aegadian Islands. Baglio Sorìa (110 ha, Trapani – headquarters), Cavanera Etnea (22 ha on Mount Etna at 650-900m), Calamoni di Favignana (5+ ha on Favignana Island), plus Borgo Guarini, Giudeo, Dàgala Borromeo, and Pianoro. Diverse terroirs from coastal to volcanic soils. Focus on both native Sicilian varieties (Nero d’Avola, Perricone, Nerello Mascalese, Zibibbo, Grillo, Catarratto) and international varieties.
Location: Headquarters at Baglio Sorìa, Paceco, Trapani, western Sicily, with estates spanning multiple Sicilian DOCs and IGTs
