Cantina Sangro
Founded in 1971 by 110 members as a cooperative, originally consisting mostly of small family businesses managing mixed cultivation. Works closely with Cantina Frentana – organic wines are made at Cantina Sangro while other wines are made at Frentana. Shares winemaker Gianni Pasquale with Frentana, a highly respected Italian winemaker. The 2021 Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo won gold (one of 15 golds from 1,205 rosé wines worldwide). Philosophy: “From the land to the table. A natural evolution” – passion and expertise handed down for generations.
Estates: Vineyards along the left bank of the Sangro River, facing south/south-east, extending over the plateau above. Sandy soils with small limestone rocks (silt and limestone pebbles) provide excellent drainage, high mineral content, and high brightness. Located in the Sangro Valley between Maiella Mountain and the Trabocchi Coast, with great ecological value and the Torino di Sangro Nature Reserve at the river mouth. Focus exclusively on native varieties: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina, and Cococciola.
Location: S.P. Santa Maria Imbaro, 1, Fossacesia (CH), Province of Chieti, Abruzzo
