Champagne Vaucelle
The Cheurlin family has been established in Celles-sur-Ource since the late 17th century, with documented presence as viticulturists dating back to 1677. The Maison Thomas Cheurlin represents several generations who have passed down tradition and savoir-faire. After World War II, the family evolved into champagne production with the advent of the méthode champenoise. In 2025, Thomas Cheurlin created the Champagne Vaucelle brand as a new premium label, distinct from the family’s traditional Cheurlin-Dangin label. Certified HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) and VDC (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne); known for using rare Blanc Vrai (Pinot Blanc) grape variety.
Estates: Jurassic Kimmeridgian soils from an ancient Jurassic sea, with continental climate that favors optimal grape ripening. Grape Varieties: Pinot Noir (70%), Chardonnay (30%), and Blanc Vrai (Pinot Blanc) – a rare variety. Focused on producing authentic champagnes close to nature and terroir; hand harvesting to preserve grape integrity; sustainable viticulture practices. Grapes exclusively from own vineyards and plots; only first pressing used; extended aging on lees. Modern pressing center (2013); aging cellars; use of amphoras (acquired 2015). Vineyards spread across three river valleys: Ourse, Seine, and Arce (hence “Vaucelle” meaning “small valley” in old Champenois dialect).
