Col Solare Winery
Founded in 1995 as a 50-50 joint venture between Tuscany’s Marchesi Antinori and Washington State’s Chateau Ste. Michelle. Name means “shining hill” in Italian. 2007 – dedicated estate winery opened on Red Mountain. 2024 – Antinori acquired 100% ownership from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates (transaction completed June 2024). Mission: Unite two unique viticultural and winemaking cultures (Italian and American) to produce world-class Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. Partnership was a breakthrough for Washington State, bringing international recognition to the region.
Estates: Estate vineyard: 29 acres on Red Mountain. Planted varieties: Five clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, plus Merlot, Carmenere, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. Annual production: Approximately 5,000 cases. Melds Old World (Italian/Tuscan) style with New World (Washington) innovation; bold, patient, innovative winemaking. Focus on showcasing Red Mountain Estate Vineyard terroir and Cabernet Sauvignon excellence. Reflects Washington terroir with the style of Tuscany.
