Cavicchioli (Cantine Riunite)
Founded April 6, 1928, when Umberto Cavicchioli transformed a farmhouse into a winery in San Prospero, Modena during the Roaring Twenties. In 1958, son Piergiorgio built a new winery where the third generation (Umberto, Sandro, Claudio) was born. In 1964, the children took over the business. Acquired by Cantine Riunite & CIV in 2010. In 1987 (60th anniversary), introduced the concept of “cru” to Lambrusco territories with iconic Vigna del Cristo, the first Lambrusco di Sorbara DOC in purity. Won prestigious Tre Bicchieri rating eleven times. Celebrating 95+ years in 2023.
Estates: The family owns 235 acres of vineyards, with 173 acres of prized Lambrusco di Sorbara variety. Production sites in San Prospero (bottling) and Bomporto (grape processing), six kilometers apart. Vineyards planted in pergola system to keep vines dry in humid climate. Historic Vigna del Cristo vineyard (5 ha) located 200 meters from Secchia River bank. Traditional cultivation methods with modern equipment. Sandro Cavicchioli graduated from State Higher Institute for Viticulture and Enology in Conegliano Veneto, serves on technical committees and as Emilia section chairman of Assoenologi.
