Castello di Cacchiano
Built in the year 1000 above Roman settlement remains, representing over 1,000 years of continuous history. Owned by the Ricasoli-Firidolfi family, descendants of Baron Bettino Ricasoli (the “Iron Baron”), great-great-grandfather of current owner Giovanni Ricasoli-Firidolfi. Baron Bettino Ricasoli was instrumental in 19th-century Tuscan viticulture and created the assembly code for Chianti wine. In 1924, Giovanni’s grandfather Luigi Ricasoli-Firidolfi was a founding member of the Consorzio del Vino Chianti Classico. The estate produces the prestigious “Millennio” wine exclusively from Sangiovese in exceptional vintages only, honoring the castle’s millennial history.
Estates: Estate extends over 200 hectares total, with 36 hectares (89 acres) dedicated to vineyards, plus 30 hectares of olive groves for DOP Chianti Classico extra virgin olive oil. Vineyards sit on the Monti in Chianti plateau at 340-490 meters (1,115-1,608 feet) elevation with predominantly southern exposure. Limestone and clay soils create natural biodiversity. Traditional methods respect family and territorial traditions. Approximately 120,000 bottles annually.
